Kansas City Chiefs: 5 offseason needs in 2019
By Tre LyDay
3. A healthy Eric Berry
Speaking of the safety position there’s been some swirling rumors that the Chiefs would be likely to part ways with Eric Berry this off season. Realistically it’s hard to see the team parting ways with such an integral part of the franchise even though he’s only played four total games the past two seasons.
The easiest out for the Chiefs if they really wanted to cut him wouldn’t be until 2020 when he only has an $8 million in dead money. So unless the team trades him it’s feasible to say that the Chiefs plan on keeping him around in 2019.
Keeping him around next season could pay off big-time. That is, if he’s actually healthy, and he hasn’t been the last two years.
If Berry is healthy he’s one of the three best safeties in the NFL. Currently, he could very well end up having surgery on the heel that was bothering him. If we used the same recovery timeline Washington Wizards point guard John Wall was set to have it would point his return sometime around the start of the regular season.
