Hasbro’s retro Star Wars and Marvel offerings at New York Toy Fair are collector’s dream

Hasbro’s retro themed Kenner line of Star Wars action figures and 90s inspired cards for ‘The Uncanny X-Men’ line is sure to break collectors’ wallets.
It’s tough being a collector, and Hasbro bringing forth its Kenner labeled ’70s and mid-’80s inspired Star Wars action figures is making it that much tougher to resist buying it all. Childhood nostalgia combined with fear of never finding the item again outside of eBay resellers is a fun, dangerous combo for the wallet. One thing is certain, the classic carded pieces for the Star Wars Kenner line, The Phantom Menace’s Darth Maul, and Marvel’s ‘The Uncanny X-Men‘ line are going to fly off the shelves. No pressure, just saying.
FanSided got an opportunity to tour Hasbro’s showroom at the 2019 New York Toy Fair and view Hasbro’s retro blended offerings for Star Wars and Marvel in all their glory. Highlights included the classic Kenner inspired line (naturally), a highly posable Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt’s Sail Barge (The Khetanna), and many impressive additions to Star Wars: The Black Series.
On the Marvel Legends side were a plethora of highly detailed pieces most noticeably: The Incredible Hulk, Kingpin, Wolverine and the Spider-Doppelganger. The ’90s-styled “The Uncanny X-Men” line though felt like it captured a moment in time for Marvel, there’s just something about that era.
Watch: A Tour of Hasbro’s Star Wars, Marvel Toys at the 2019 New York Toy Fair
Check out the double-sided lightsaber of Darth Maul’s 20th anniversary figure at 1:10 next to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Boba Fett from Star Wars: The Black Series Archive line. Not to be outdone Darth Vader’s impressive highly posable figure (including exoskeleton) can be seen at 1:13. Be sure to watch the beauty of the Sail Barge at 2:27 with Jabba the Hutt fitted at center. That’s one piece fitting for any Return of the Jedi fan’s collection.
At 3:59, Marvel’s Legends series is seen with Wolverine and The Incredible Hulk at front and center to start off. “The Uncanny X-Men” ’90s-inspired card backs can be seen starting at 5:07. One wonders if today’s editions of non-retro, non-collector toys will be remembered with the same fondness someday.
