2. Defensive End

Despite the presence of some aging veterans, the Eagles still have a solid group of defensive ends. The big story here is the pending free agency of Brandon Graham. He’s been one of the more steady performers for the Eagles over the course of his career.

Philadelphia’s strong pass rush has had a lot to do with their ability to keep their players fresh. Graham was part of a rotation that featured Chris Long, Michael Bennett, Derek Barnett and Josh Sweat.

With their salary cap problems, it’s going to be tough for the Eagles to bring Graham back into the into the mix.

Labeling this position as a need is more about the future rather than for the upcoming season. Barnett and Sweat are the only two with a long-term future with the team and while they have upside they still have a lot to prove.

However, Philadelphia does need to be careful of how much they ask someone like Chris Long to do. At this stage in his career he’s at his best in part-time role.

This is an area where Philadelphia should use one of their mid-round draft picks to address. They have an extra second round pick from their trade last year with the Baltimore Ravens. The upcoming draft has plenty of interesting options at the edge position.
