Round 2 – Pick 61

Darnell Savage, S, Maryland

The Chiefs might end up revamping their safety position this off season. Daniel Sorensen and Eric Murray might be cap casualties this off season, and Armani Watts still has a lot to prove even though he showed flashes before his season ending injury.

With the growing health concerns of Eric Berry as well this position has to be one of the main focuses both in free agency and in the upcoming draft.

Realistically the Chiefs might trade up from this spot but there are no trades in a mock draft. Enter Darnell Savage from Maryland. Savage finished second team All-Big 10 last season after earning honorable mention in 2017.

He has good ball skills finishing with four interceptions in 2018, and once he gets going downhill he’s like a missile. He can improve as an overall tackler, but he could be just what the Chiefs need at the safety spot.

Round 2 – Pick 63

Vosean Joseph, LB, Florida

If you ask Chiefs fans they’d love nothing more than to bring in Devin Bush as their linebacker of the future. Realistically they’d probably have to trade up into the high teens to pick him, and I’m not sure that’s something GM Brett Veach wants to do.

His range and speed is what makes him an attractive prospect in the second round for the Chiefs. Right now Reggie Ragland lacks the physical traits to thrive at the mike linebacker spot in a 4-3 scheme and he already doesn’t play in sub packages. Joseph can cover backs and tight ends and is an excellent blitzer.

More importantly unlike Ragland you can keep him on the field in sub packages. He needs to get stronger which wouldn’t be a problem. He may not be a day one guy, but he could definitely be worth the pick with more coaching.
