Round 3 – Pick 92

DaMarkus Lodge, WR, Ole Miss

I already know what you’re thinking. Why would one of the best offenses in the NFL need another perimeter weapon? The Chiefs actually don’t have a lot of depth at the wide receiver position. Chris Conely is set to be a free agent this summer, and who knows if the team will resign him.

Demarcus Robinson show some flashes when Sammy Watkins was hurt last year, but it’s clear his ceiling isn’t all that high. Outside of Tyreek Hill the Chiefs haven’t had a ton of success drafting wide receivers in recent history.

The offense that Ole Miss runs makes it very difiicult to gauge his route running ability, because it’s a very simplified route tree. Lodge’s speed, footwork and his ability know how to work angles suggest with time he can learn the entire route tree.

As for his ability to catch the football. Well the highlights speak for itself aside from the occasional inexcusable drop. His ceiling puts him as a definite upgrade from Robinson and Conley and could pair very well with Mahomes.
