Maxx Williams

The tight end position isn’t the most important in the Saints’ offense, but that means they can take some chances with the position. Ben Watson is retiring this offseason, and the only player they have at the position signed through next season is Josh Hill. That’s not going to cut it, but they also won’t want to spend a chunk of their limited cap space on a player like Jared Cook, who will look to cash in on his big season with the Oakland Raiders.

Maxx Williams is an extremely intriguing option for the Saints. He’s a player that some thought could be the next great tight end, but a rash of injuries took away that hope. Last season, he played 13 games for the Baltimore Ravens and PFF gave him a 71.3 grade, which is average. Average is all the Saints need from the tight end position.

Williams’ numbers don’t jump off the map, but did you see that Ravens offense last season? None of their pass-catchers did well. However, Williams could certainly outdo the production from Coby Fleener and Ben Watson in recent years in an offense this good.

Williams is going into the postseason healthy and looking to sign a deal that lets him showcase himself. In New Orleans, he would likely get a short-term deal, but one that could be worth it for him in the long run. The Saints could spend minimal money, and Williams could save his career.
