Round 3: Damien Harris

We wouldn’t argue with the Vikings going for another interior offensive lineman here, but that might send the fans into pure revolt. Instead, we’re projecting Minnesota to go with a running back partner for Dalvin Cook on Day Three.

Remember, Latavius Murray is headed to free agency which would leave the Vikings without a legitimate No. 2 running back. That’s not an acceptable scenario given Cook’s checkered injury history.

Harris didn’t get a ton of attention at Alabama, but he projects as a really solid running back at the next level. He doesn’t have a ton of wiggle in the hole, but he runs with real power and purpose. That makes him an excellent guy to bring in as a change of pace when Cook needs a blow.

There is some palpable buzz that Harris might go in the second round, but we don’t see a real run on running backs until the draft’s final day. Scooping up Harris would give Zimmer a lot of insurance at the running back position. The Vikings might wait until later in the draft to find a second back, but Harris would be too good to pass up at this spot.
