Round 3: Dru Samia

The Falcons are well stocked with talent on offense, but Andy Levitre’s potential departure does give them an open spot to fill at guard. Getting Dru Samia on the draft’s third day would give the Falcons a player who could emerge as an immediate starter.

Samia isn’t a road-grader by any stretch of the imagination, but he has really good feet for a guard. That should allow him to thrive in a scheme that features the kind of zone plays the Falcons lean on.

His technique is also really advanced for a player coming out of college. He’s one of the more polished guards available in this year’s class. Samia probably doesn’t have Pro Bowl potential, but he profiles as a solid starter for the majority of his career.

Fortunately for the Falcons they don’t need a guy to come in and be a star. Instead, they need a guy who can come in and do his job. Samia is someone who can absolutely do that at the guard position. Getting a starter in Round 3 is good business for any team.
