C.J. Mosley rumors: 5 best fits in NFL free agency
By Brad Weiss
3. Oakland Raiders
One team that is going to have a major focus on them this offseason is the Oakland Raiders, who head into one of the more important years in franchise history. Oakland has a rookie general manager in Mike Mayock, a ton of cap space, and the most draft capital of any team in the National Football League.
Not only will Mayock be tasked with putting a solid team on the field, he will have to figure out what to do with the team’s plethora of free agents. When it comes to the current Raiders roster, there is not even enough players to field a team, and there are major issues on both sides of the ball.
On defense, Oakland invested a ton in their defensive line last offseason, signing Justin Ellis to an extension, and drafting Maurice Hurst and P.J. Hall in the 2018 NFL Draft. The issue was, the traded away a generational talent in Khalil Mack prior to the season, leaving them with a gaping hole on the edge.
Oakland figures to draft an edge rusher early in round one, but in the middle of their defense, there is a gaping hole at middle linebacker. C.J. Mosley plays with the kind of passion that head coach Jon Gruden loves, and you have to believe defensive coordinator Paul Guenther will be salivating if the Raiders have a shot to bring in an elite talent like Mosley to captain their defense in 2019.
