2019 NFL mock draft: Drew Lock heads to Broncos
By Brad Weiss
The Kansas City Chiefs will head into the 2019 NFL Draft with a couple of big needs on both sides of the ball, but when they released Justin Houston, adding an edge rusher became a priority. Luckily for Chiefs fans, this is a draft class loaded with guys who can get the edge, including Boston College’s Zach Allen.
Heading in to the new league year, Kansas City had needs in their secondary, but they were able to get Tyrann Mathieu, who previously starred for the Houston Texans. They have a need at cornerback for sure, but this late in the first round, they may want to add a guy who can flat out get to the quarterback.
During his time at BC, Allen established himself as one of the better edge rushers in the country, possessing that rare ability to cause havoc for quarterbacks. Entering 2019, the Chiefs do not have many deficiencies on the offensive side of the ball, so the fact that they are paying attention to the defense is a good sign.
Patrick Mahomes absolutely shredded the NFL in his first season as the starting quarterback in Kansas City, and should be in for a major encore in year two. This is a team that should challenge for a Super Bowl title during the 2019 NFL season, and if they can improve the defense, another 12-win season is not out of the realm of possibility.
