Round 1 – Pick 22

N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State

Thanks to the timely signings of Earl Thomas and Mark Ingram, the Ravens have set themselves up to not reach on two positions that are not prominent in this draft. Of course, there are safeties and running backs who would be available at the back-end of the first round. However, the team would be best served looking elsewhere.

The positions that the Ravens must consider are at edge pass rusher, interior linebacker, wide receiver and interior offensive line. In this run-through of the mock draft there were no linebackers worthy of a first-round selection, with Devin White and Devin Bush off the board. The top interior offensive lineman was available with Garrett Bradbury. Unfortunately, the run on edge pass rushers at the top of the draft tapped that position bare. Even with Bradbury there, the Ravens are in desperate need for some help at wide receiver.

That is where the draft’s second-best receiver entered the picture, Arizona State’s N’Keal Harry. The former Sun Devil is the perfect weapon for Lamar Jackson. There may be no better player at hauling in tough catches on poorly-thrown balls than Harry. Jackson, for all of his strengths, still struggles with accuracy. Why not bring in the best prospect at bringing in inaccurate passes to help him?

Despite a 4.53 40-yard dash, Harry has the athleticism to be a first round pick. He does not win with deep speed. Instead he wins like a bully, with power and aggressiveness. When the ball is coming his way, he’s going to grab it. His strength testing coupled with his jumps confirmed what we saw on tape, his run after the catch ability is top-notch thanks to explosiveness and he has the strength to bust through arm tackles. Harry is a great fit in this Baltimore offense and is a perfect pairing of need and prospect.
