NFL Draft 2019: Baltimore Ravens full NFL mock draft
By Joe Romano
The Baltimore Ravens were a playoff team last year and will look to build on that late season run by adding talent in the 2019 NFL Draft.
2018 was a wild ride for the Baltimore Ravens and their fan base. Early in the season they were throwing the ball more than any other team with Joe Flacco as their quarterback. A 180-degree turn later, they went back to 1960’s run-first football with Lamar Jackson replacing the injured Flacco. Jackson in turn led the team to the playoffs. Now the Ravens will need to continue to build around Jackson in the 2019 NFL Draft to keep themselves in the playoff hunt.
In terms of overall talent lost in one offseason, there may not be a team in the NFL that saw an exodus quite like the Ravens in 2019. They lost a pair of pass rushers in Za’Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs. Lining up behind them used to be C.J. Mosley, who is now the highest paid linebacker for the New York Jets. Even safety Eric Weddle was let go and quickly snatched up by the Los Angeles Rams. Those are big hits for this defense.
New general manager Eric DeCosta did not sit idly by. The Ravens were able to land Earl Thomas to a big deal to replace the departed Weddle and form an elite safety unit with Tony Jefferson. Offensively, they added a stellar running back in Mark Ingram to compliment Lamar Jackson and any other backs the team brings in.
Speaking of DeCosta, this will be his second time running the Ravens draft. Last year he was able to acquire quarterback Lamar Jackson. There were some other odd picks, but overall it would be deemed a successful draft thus far. He will need another one in 2019 to get this team back in the playoffs.
