5 bold Premier League predictions: Mane helps Liverpool past Tottenham
4. Cardiff get shock win over Chelsea
Cardiff have had an exciting return to the Premier League but it looks like it could end in relegation. The Bluebirds have remained competitive for most of the season and their home form is the only thing that’s left them with some hope.
Neil Warnock’s side are just two points back from fellow strugglers Southampton and Burnley, who have more winnable games this weekend. Nobody will expect Cardiff to take anything from this match but they’ve produced some great performances at home this season.
The Welsh side have really struggled to keep up with the league’s bigger teams though and have had some drubbings from the likes of Watford, Manchester United and Tottenham. The key for Cardiff is to avoid conceding so early and having to chase the game as they just get picked off too easily in matches like that.
Warnock has a great team spirit within his squad and that’s what will keep them up and competitive in a match like this where their standard of player is that much less than that of the opposition.
Chelsea look like they could be struggling for a top four spot after an impressive start to the season. They are doing well in the Europa League but have struggled domestically under Maurizio Sarri. This doesn’t mean the Italian should be sacked but it does raise questions about what changed so dramatically for the Blues from the start of the season to now.
Ideally Cardiff probably need two goals to win this one as it’s hard not to see Chelsea scoring. Neil Etheridge will be busy in goal for the Bluebirds and if he can keep everything else out then his side could just nick this one 2-1.
