MLB rumors: 5 prospects who can help Blue Jays in 2019
By Shoaib Alli
5. Anthony Alford, OF
Picking Alford to make the Blue Jays roster is, possibly, a bit of a cop-out, if only because he already spent a chunk of last season on the major league roster – he made 21 plate appearances over 13 games in 2018. Even so, to start the 2019 campaign, he remains down in the minors.
Alford’s athletic ability is off the charts – he has great movement speed around the diamond, and his raw talent as a four-star dual-threat QB in high school and college is on constant display.
Oddly, when minor league teammate Rowdy Tellez was called up for Opening Day (Tellez was brought up following a last minute trade that saw Kendrys Morales sent to the Oakland Athletics), he was accompanied by Alford to Toronto – but only Tellez cracked the roster. Alford was sent back down, but it’s only a matter of time before he’s back up with the team.
