5 WWE Superstars who should have main-evented WrestleMania
By Matt Black
2. CM Punk
Looking back to WrestleMania 28 and 29, it would have been easy to argue that either one of CM Punk’s matches could have main-evented those shows over Cena and The Rock. One of the main things that irked Punk to the point of leaving the company was WWE never allowing him to close the show on the biggest stage of the year.
Some would argue that Daniel Bryan would have never been given the opportunity to main event WrestleMania 30 if not for Punk walking out that year the day after the Royal Rumble. Being the main event of WrestleMania means the absolute world to the people who eat, sleep, and breathe this business, and Punk felt like the spot that he rightfully earned was taken away from him, not once but twice.
CM Punk and The Undertaker arguably stole the show at WrestleMania 29. Most people considered that to be the true main event of the night. Unfortunately though, while it might have been the real main event in the eyes of the WWE Universe, it didn’t close the show and thus can’t technically be considered that.
One has to wonder what might have been had WWE just given Punk what he wanted and rightfully deserved all those years ago, the main event match and the right to close the show at WrestleMania. Would he have still walked out on the road to WrestleMania 30? If not would he still be wrestling for WWE today? Sadly, these are all what-if scenarios that we’ll never see play out.
