5 bold Premier League predictions: Cardiff hold Liverpool to draw
4. Manchester City get revenge on Tottenham
In midweek Manchester City and Tottenham played out one of the best Champions League ties in recent memory. The game had seven goals, with City running out 4-3 winners on the night. However, this wasn’t enough to send the Light Blues through as Spurs’ away goals saw them past Pep Guardiola’s men.
That means that City’s dream of the quadruple is now over and the next best trophy that the Manchester club can win is the league. This weekend they’ll need to make sure that they can beat Spurs again in order to keep their title fight alive as well.
Guardiola’s side have lost this season but that Champions League result is certainly the game that will hurt them most. That means they’ll want revenge on Tottenham and the London club could be in for a rough afternoon.
Spurs showed that they can compete with City but they may face a different beast this weekend. The City fans will be desperate for a response after such disappointment and the players will also be desperate to prove that midweek was just one game which didn’t quite go their way.
Whether the match will start as energetically as Wednesday’s match is debatable. It’s hard to imagine that both teams will be able to produce that level of intensity again. That could still mean that there are plenty of goals in this match-up as tiredness could cause some mistakes.
Mauricio Pochettino needs to make sure that his side forget about their triumph in order to cement their place in the top four and guarantee Champions League soccer for next season. With that in mind, a draw would probably be a reasonable result for Spurs this weekend.
That won’t happen though as City will be rampant and desperate to get immediate payback on their Premier League counterparts. Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling will both find the net twice as City run out 4-1 winners.
