The Premier League season is almost coming to a close and it’s time for matchweek 35. In a top vs. bottom clash, league leaders Liverpool travel to relegation-candidates Cardiff. Manchester City host Tottenham as the Light Blues look for revenge after their Champions League defeat to Spurs.
Manchester United will look to return to winning ways when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton while Southampton will try and edge even closer to safety by beating Newcastle. The weekend is rounded up with Burnley’s trip to Chelsea on Monday. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.
5. Cardiff keep survival hopes alive as they hold Liverpool to draw
The Premier League is very close to what will be an amazing climax as sides at the bottom and top of the table are still fighting for things. Two of these teams, Cardiff and Liverpool, face off against each other this weekend with very different goals in mind.
Liverpool are trying to win their first Premier League title in almost three decades while Cardiff are just hoping to remain in the Premier League for next season. The Bluebirds got a huge result in midweek as they beat fellow relegation strugglers Brighton.
If it weren’t for some poor refereeing decisions, Cardiff would be a lot closer to Brighton in the table as well. However, their form over the course of the season hasn’t been good enough to suggest that it’s solely down to bad decisions against the Welsh side.
Warnock has done a good job with Cardiff and even if they go down they should be a strong and more experienced team going back into the Championship. They should definitely look to Burnley as an example that going back down to the Championship isn’t the worst thing to happen.
Liverpool need to win all of their remaining games and there’s no other way to look at it for Jurgen Klopp’s side. If they do that and Manchester City slip up just once, the Reds will lift the Premier League trophy in May.
Cardiff away should be an easy game for Liverpool. The Welsh side have been blown away on more than one occasion this season, especially by the bigger sides in the league. This game could be different, though.
Warnock’s side will know that even one point could be the difference between survival and relegation so they will set up incredibly defensively. Stopping Liverpool’s attack is difficult to do and even more difficult when you’ve got one of the worst defenses in the league.
If Cardiff can keep it tight until halftime then they might have a shot at a point. Liverpool fans won’t like this but this weekend their team could well and truly lose the title by dropping points in Cardiff.
