2019 NFL mock draft: Kyler Murray finally goes to Cardinals
By Brad Weiss
The Carolina Panthers looked like they were going to steamroll to a playoff spot last season, as they got off the one of the hottest starts in football. Unfortunately, they could muster only one win over their last eight games, and that win came in the season finale against a Drew Brees-less New Orleans Saints team.
The biggest issue with this team last season was the fact that Cam Newton could not go for all 16 games, as he was dealing with a sore right shoulder. In fact, towards the end of the year, not only was he bench during Hail Mary plays, but he was benched all together for the final few weeks of the season.
The hope is that the added rest will help him come back even stronger in 2019, and try to regain some of the form that made him a Most Valuable Player a few years back. With a healthy Newton under center, and a star in the back field in running back Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers have the talent they need on the offensive side of the ball.
On defense, the Panthers certainly need help on all three levels, and adding a player like Devin Bush from Michigan would be a nice find at No. 16 overall. Luke Kuechly is starting to get up there in age, and while he is still a dominant player, bringing in Bush would ensure that there is an easy passing of the torch once he decides to retire.
