Tennessee Titans

Grade: B+

Best pick: A.J. Brown (WR, Ole Miss)

Questionable pick: Jeffery Simmons (DT, Mississippi St)

Sleeper pick: Amani Hooker (S, Iowa)

Of all the draft-eligible wide receiver prospects from Ole Miss, D.K. Metcalf may have gotten the majority of the press after his freakish workout numbers, but A.J. Brown could very well have the best pro career moving forward. Brown has excellent size and quickness that should make him a valuable possession receiver for Marcus Mariota and take some pressure off of Corey Davis. Don’t be surprised if Brown leads all rookies in receiving in 2019.

Fresh off learning of the horrific phone call released in the Tyreek Hill case, the selection of Jeffery Simmons in the first round feels especially unsettling. Nobody doubts Simmons’ talent and by all reports, he was the model citizen following his very public off-field incident, but it’s still difficult to watch NFL teams keep ignoring these red flags in favor of talent. I’m all for giving second chances but lately, many of these second chances wind up blowing up in teams’ faces. Add this to the fact that Simmons may not even play in 2019 following his ACL injury, and this seems like a potentially risky selection for Tennessee.

Amani Hooker was quietly one of the best safeties in the entire draft and the Titans were able to get excellent value as a player who could see him in a starting role early in his NFL career.
