2020 NFL mock draft: Tua Tagovailoa goes to Dolphins
By Brad Weiss
The Cincinnati Bengals were expected to be in the market for a first round quarterback on Thursday night, as they were in prime position to get a player like Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock. However, they decided to pass on the most important position in football early in round one, opting to instead bring in the best offensive tackle in the draft class.
Jonah Williams is a guy who will be a cornerstone along this Bengals offensive line for years to come, and they did actually end up adding a quarterback in the fourth round, selecting Ryan Finley from NC State. However, there are some elite quarterback prospects coming out next year, and the Bengals could be in the market for Justin Herbert from Oregon.
The 2019 season will be Zac Taylor’s first as an NFL head coach, so there is going to be a lot of stumbling along the way. Most sportsbooks have the Bengals not being competitive in 2019, and there is a real chance that they are picking within the top five selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.
With that pick, the Bengals, and Taylor, may want to bring in a franchise quarterback like Herbert, who would have been a top pick in the 2019 draft had he come out. This is a team that has some talent on both sides of the ball, and while Finley is a nice player, Herbert would be a much better long-term answer.
