Backyard of the kingdom

Before the show got underway, assistant to the general manager Sid Scala announced the aforementioned fatal four-way to determine the No. 1 contender to the UK Championship. He went on to reveal that the participants for that match would be determined by a series of qualifying matches over the next few weeks. The first of those matches? This one: Joe Coffey versus Flash Morgan Webster.

Webster is used to being the fan favorite, what with his kitschy “Flash Will Tear You Apart” mod jacket and his bulls-eye helmet that’s for carrying purposes only. Here however, in the backyard of Gallus’ kingdom, he’s heavily booed in favor of conquering hometown hero Coffey. Everything he does — headlocks, arm drags, existing — just elicits more furor from the Glasgow crowd. It’s an unfamiliar dynamic that seems to put The Modfather off his game.

Not that a Coffey win was ever in doubt. Even when he seemed in danger following a Webster jumping knee strike, Coffey is able to get his knees up on a Swanton Bomb — which, ouch. He then blasts Webster into the corner and turns him upside down and inside out with a huge lariat (All the Best for the Bells) for the win.

Flash Morgan Webster was Pretty Exciting Morgan Webster, but was just not Good Enough Morgan Webster to overcome the behemoth that is Coffey. With Gallus being positioned as a top faction and him as its leader, it’s very clear how important of a figure Coffey is in NXT UK. He moves on to the four-way.
