San Diego Padres: U.S. Military Appreciation

The San Diego Padres’ love for the U.S. Military runs deep. In fact, back in 1996, they became the first  team in professional sports to launch an annual Military Appreciation Day. Since then, the team has gone above and beyond to honor the men and women who fight to keep America free.

Not only do the Padres have Military Appreciation events, but they do more than that throughout the year. They wear camouflage jerseys during every Sunday home game, as well three times a year, on Labor Day, Memorial Day and the 4th of July. The jerseys have changed over the years.

The San Diego area is home to plenty of military installations, including several Navy and Coast Guard bases. Five percent of the working population in the San Diego area come from the civilians who live on these bases.

The team has gone out of their way to make going to Padres games more affordable for servicemen and women, giving them discounted prices and creating special areas in the stadium to watch the game from. When it comes to the military, the San Diego Padres certainly know how to honor them.
