WWE United States Championship Match

Samoa Joe (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

This is technically a little more than a grudge match with the United States Championship on the line, but these two have been at it for quite some time, it’s a WrestleMania rematch and I didn’t have anywhere else to put it with the format we’re rolling with for our previews. Rey took a quick beating at WrestleMania 35, losing to Joe in one minute, but that’s not likely to happen again. Rey’s son Dominic (sometimes Dominick), the one from that crazy custody storyline with Eddie Guerrero all those years ago, has gotten more involved in this feud and could end up being some sort of factor here.

Prediction: The fun story would be Dominic turning on his old man, but I don’t know what that payoff would be moving forward. Rey got his revenge to get this shot but this title is perfect on Joe right now so I think it stays with him.

Roman Reigns vs. Elias

Yep, this is a pay-per-view match. I do like that Roman Reigns wasn’t thrown right back into the title picture upon his return from his battle with leukemia, so maybe this mid-card feud isn’t that bad. Plus, Elias gets an actual match with a big name as opposed to getting interrupted by yet another part-time star. I’m not sure where they’re going with Reigns and the McMahons, but that continues to be a story with Shane continuing to get in Reigns’ business, on behalf of his father.

Prediction: This certainly won’t be the best match on the card by any means, but I’m hoping for at least a little entertainment. Elias should hold his own, but there’s no way he walks away with a clean win. Roman goes over.

Shane McMahon vs. The Miz (Steel Cage Match)

A steel cage match usually means that a feud is coming to an end, and it is about time to wrap up this Shane McMahon/Miz business. This all turned out so much better than I ever thought it would and I actually did enjoy their match at WrestleMania, even if the thing with Miz’s dad looked insanely awkward. The finish was done to perfection as McMahon took a beating but still managed to get the win. McMahon has always been a great heel, and he’s doing a great job once again in that role. As for The Miz, it’s still a little strange watching him as a babyface but he’s thriving as well. This should be fun.

Prediction: This isn’t a Hell in a Cell bout and this isn’t falls count anywhere so I’m not sure where McMahon is supposed to do his death-defying stunt, but there’s no doubt he’s got something in mind. He’s been a step ahead most of the way coming in to the match, but The Miz is due to win this feud in the end and move on to something else. The Miz gets the win in another entertaining match.
