WWE Championship Match

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Kevin Owens

It was only a matter of time before Kevin Owens got back to being Kevin Owens but it was still entertaining to watch the turn. KO as an honorary member of The New Day was hilarious. But we could see the switch coming a mile away, and it’s working beautifully as this has turned into a great program. It obviously hasn’t been all on Owens. Kofi Kingston has been a fantastic champion since his big win at WrestleMania 35, and even got a clean, rematch victory over Daniel Bryan on his way to Money in the Bank. The two have gone back and forth both physically and on the microphone, making for a fantastic match.

Prediction: The big rumor is that it actually was Kevin Owens in line to win the WWE Championship before Kofimania began, so this creates an interesting scenario. Kingston got his big moment and has held the WWE Championship for six weeks. Is that enough time in Vince McMahon’s eyes? The WWE Universe got the big moment they wanted and maybe that was enough for creative. Maybe it’s time to put the original plan back into play.

There’s three big shows in the next five weeks so a few matches between these two wouldn’t be a surprise, even with the “no automatic rematch” issue. So maybe Kingston gets this one and then Owens takes the title in Saudi Arabia or at the new Stomping Grounds event in June. Sure, we’ll go with that, and Kingston retaining this Sunday.

WWE Universal Championship Match

Seth Rollins (c) vs. AJ Styles

So is AJ Styles a heel now or not? It’s a little confusing, but it seems to be leaning that way. We don’t know why creative felt the need to go in that direction, as a babyface vs. babyface matchup would’ve worked just fine with these two.Rollins vs. Styles, on star power alone, carries the interest. It was also a surprise WWE allowed the footage from their match in the indies years ago as part of their promo package on Raw this week, but it was a good surprise. Both have come such a long way since then and a matchup between two of the greatest in-ring performers of this generation is long overdue. The build has been fun and intense and the match should be exactly the same. It’s worth watching the show just for this.

Prediction: The easy prediction here would be to say that this will be the match of the night and, as far as the one-on-one contests go, I don’t think there’s any question about that. As far as who’s going to win here, it seems like Rollins is the call here but I’m not sure about how the finish goes down. Styles has always been able to bounce back from a clean loss but I’m not sure that’s what happens here. I don’t see the MITB briefcase getting involved, but I do see something weird going down. Perhaps something to set up a match in Saudi Arabia. Or maybe they put on an absolute classic that isn’t ruined with a screwy finish. I do think Rollins walks out still the Universal Champ.
