4. Jose Iglesias

Jose Iglesias has been one of the best bargain signings of the entire year. He signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds before the season. Since then, he’s playing every day in the major leagues, starting for the Reds at shortstop and has hit .298 with four homes runs. That might not sound like amazing numbers, but Iglesias career high home run number is six.

Iglesias may be the best defensive shortstop in baseball. In fact, he has the eighth best defensive WAR in all of baseball. Iglesias was always known as one of the best defenders in the sport, but he had trouble staying consistent at the plate. Maybe moving on from the Detroit Tigers was the best things he could do, because he’s been very important to their lineup.

The Rays don’t necessarily have a need in the infield, with Willy Adames and Brandon Lowe up the middle, but Iglesias would provide important depth at a position that’s been pretty weak across the major leagues. Adames and Lowe are both just 24 years old. Neither has played a 100 games in a season in the majors. It’s hard to tell what they’ll have left come September and October.

Having a player like Iglesias who has years of experience while only being 29 years old could be an amazing asset. Also, he won’t cost a ton in a trade because he basically came to the Reds for free.
