Germany plays China on Saturday, June 8 at the Roazhon Park in Rennes, France. Here’s what you need to know before tuning in.

Two-time world champions Germany, one of the favorites to win the World Cup, take on China to open Group B on June 8 in Rennes.

The Group B clash pits a team looking to capture a third World Cup against China, a nation that once dominated the women’s game. The Germans, who won the 2003 and ’07 World Cups, features midfielder Lina Magull and playmaker Dzsenifer Marozsan, two of the world’s best players.

As gold medal winners at the 2016 Rio Olympics and currently ranked No. 2 in the world by FIFA, Germany are favorites to top the group (which also includes Spain and South Africa) and should have relatively little trouble against China.

The Germans, who have played in every edition of the Women’s World Cup, possess a very powerful offense, scoring 35 goals during World Cup qualifying. The team also has a very good defense, conceding just three times over those eight matches.

China, on the other hand, reached the championship game of the 1999 World Cup, where they lost to the United States in the final, and are currently No. 16 in the FIFA rankings. China has qualified for every World Cup with the exception of the 2011 edition.
