4. Eric Berry

It seems like forever ago that Eric Berry was a household name and staple among those playing the safety position. After playing in just three games over the past two years, the former Kansas City Chiefs star’s future in the NFL is suddenly in question.

Battling heel/Achilles injuries in 2017 and 2018, Berry hasn’t put together a healthy season since 2016. That year, he recorded 77 tackles, nine passes defended and four interceptions. A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Berry’s resumè speaks for itself.

The only issue is… health. Now on the wrong side of 30 (and turning 31 during this upcoming season) and having missed 29 of 32 possible games the last two years, the odds are stacked quite high against the former Tennessee Volunteer. Per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Berry is reported to be healthy and ready to go ahead of this season.

The market for Berry isn’t dead. At his peak, he was not only one of the best safeties in the NFL but one of the best players in the game, period. Although his athleticism may see a dropoff and he can’t be relied upon to stay healthy, his talent and leadership alone make him an interesting signing for teams in need of safety help.
