Baskets season 4, episode 2, live stream: Watch online
Chip will be dealing with emotional issues in the upcoming episodes, making this season feel more poignant. Here’s how to watch Baskets season 4 episode 2 live.
Chip Baskets is continuing his journey of self reflection since last season. Reviews of the upcoming episodes have noted how heartfelt they are, with Chip going into therapy to deal with his father’s suicide and his mother’s eating disorder.
Chip finally came to grips with the nature of his father’s death last season, and although this season has less humor, it packs a punch with its emotional connection. When the gags do appear, they tend to be laugh out loud moments that break up the heart string narrative.
The fourth season may be the last for the series.
The viewer numbers have been dipping, but kudos to FX for sticking with such a quirky, poignant show that shows off the comedy shops of creator Zach Galifianakis and the utterly delightful — and Emmy-earning Louis Anderson as his mother, Christine Baskets.
Watching this beautiful, warm portrayal come alive on the television screen has been one of the most satisfying entertainment experiences ever. Anderson is simply a revelation in the role. You forget that you are watching an acting job.
Christine Baskets achieved lots of closure in her life last year and she’s found love with the “carpet king” Ken, a truly likeable and nurturing man. Chip’s twin brother, Dale, is still a mysoginistic mess bent on wrecking his own life, but this season really belongs to Chip.
His mother financed the Bakersville Rodeo, helping him put a foundation under his clown dream. Now it’s Chip’s turn to branch out on his own. He will be seeking his own space, with the help of (non) friend, Martha (a wonderful deadpan Martha Kelly), his go-to-punching bag.
Kelly also does so much with so little in the role, her bare reactions exacerbate the comedy. Gafiliankis also manages to insult her without seemingly meaning to, it’s always pretty clear that he’s far worse off than her.
If this is the last season, it looks like Chip is on the path to getting his life together, on his own terms. It will be fun to see how he pulls it together for full closure.
No word on Dale, though. I think at this point he’s a lost cause.
