USWNT vs. Sweden live stream: Watch World Cup online
The U.S. closes out Group F against Sweden on Thursday, June 20 in Le Havre, France. Here’s what to know before you watch.
The United States will close out group play at the Women’s World Cup against Sweden on Thursday at Stade Oceane in Le Havre, France. On the line is first place in Group F, but the Americans also have an old score to settle.
The bad blood between these two traditional women’s soccer powers dates back to the 2016 Olympics. At those Rio Games, the Swedes knocked the U.S. out of the quarterfinals via a penalty shootout.
If that wasn’t enough, the outcome resulted in the contract termination of U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo for calling the Swedes “a bunch of cowards” for employing defensive tactics and pushing the game to a shootout.
A draw this time around and the U.S. would win the group, given the better goal differential it secured after demolishing Thailand 13-0 in that record-setting opening game and Chile 3-0. Both teams are already through to the knockout stage by virtue of having each won their first two matches.
Sweden should present the Americans with their toughest challenge to date at this tournament. By winning the group, the United States, the favorites to repeat as world champions, would likely meet France in the quarterfinals should both nations progress to that point.
The Women’s World Cup game between the United States and Thailand will be broadcast live on Fox. Live streaming is available on Fox Sports Go, which you can access with your cable or satellite subscriptions, either online or through the app.
