3. A more detailed villain

As you see in the Breath of the Wild sequel trailer above, a big emphasis is placed on, what seems to be, a new villain. Well, we think it’s Ganondorf based on all the hints and speculation from the fans. However, the point is, the sequel needs to have a more detailed villain in order for the fans to even care about the main antagonist.

As far as we can remember, every Zelda game has a memorable villain. For example, Ganondorf has been the main villain for the majority of every game. There are some exceptions, such as Majora’s Mask, where Skull Kid takes on that role. There’s also Zant, who’s more of a puppet until later in Twilight Princess, and Ghirahim, who happens to be the spirit of the main villain, Demise, in Skyward Sword.

The point is, all of these villains have a ton of character development and it makes the player appreciate them that much more. Calamity Ganon in Breath of the Wild is fine, but he could’ve been so much more. For the better half of the game, his presence is simply lingering around Hyrule Castle.

It’s never personal like the relationship between Zelda and Link is. Even the other characters, such as King Rhoam and the Champions, have better development. The stakes are most definitely there, but you don’t really deal with Ganon himself until you actually go and face him. He never haunts you throughout the game, where in others he does on a variety of occasions.

We think the villain this time around will be much more personal and detailed. If the trailer indicates anything, it’ll be another reincarnation of Ganondorf, which is great. Calamity Ganon was simply a powerful entity or force in Breath of the Wild. However, in the sequel, we hope we deal with the villain more directly as we play the game.
