Week-by-week predictions

Game 1: vs. South Alabama

After losing their first six games of the 2018 season, Nebraska should pretty easily buck that trend with an opener against South Alabama, which should result in a cruising win to set the tone positively in Lincoln.

Result: Win

Game 2: at Colorado

The Buffaloes have the potential to be dangerous for any ranked team that they play in the 2019 season, including Nebraska. This one could be close as the Huskers go out west but they should survive at the end of the day.

Result: Win

Game 3: vs. Northern Illinois

Coming off of their toughest non-conference test and then preceding their Big Ten schedule, the Huskers will take on a Huskies team that has talent but can’t match up with Frost’s group for 60 minutes.

Result: Win

Game 4: at Illinois

Kicking off Big Ten play, Nebraska goes on the road and should make pretty easy work of the Fighting Illini in this matchup.

Result: Win

Game 5: vs. Ohio State

As fun as it would be to say that the Cornhuskers can welcome the Buckeyes to Lincoln and pick up a monstrous Big Ten win, it’s just hard to see them being at that level just yet. Ryan Day and Ohio State win, but do so just narrowly.

Result: Loss

Game 6: vs. Northwestern

Coming off of the loss to Ohio State, Nebraska could very well start a slump as they face a tough Northwestern team with a potential ringer at quarterback in Hunter Johnson. Instead, the Huskers will come out looking to prove they’re legit and will notch a big-time win.

Result: Win

Game 7: at Minnesota

P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers will no doubt be looking to cause some midseason waves in the Big Ten but I don’t believe they have the horses to take down the Cornhuskers in this matchup.

Result: Win

Game 8: vs. Indiana

There have been plenty of occasions when Indiana has been good but not good enough to win big games. You can go ahead and put this game in that category as well with the Huskers getting the W.

Result: Win

Game 9: at Purdue

Despite some critical losses on offense, Jeff Brohm’s Purdue team isn’t going to be an easy game for any team in the 2019 season. With the Wisconsin game looming, Nebraska will need to stay locked in to go on the road and get the win.

Result: Win

Game 10: vs. Wisconsin

While I’m dubious of Wisconsin’s prowess to compete on a national level, their old-school approach and elite rushing attack could cause a pedestrian Cornhuskers defense a lot of problems in Lincoln.

Result: Loss

Game 11: at Maryland

Maryland has the potential to again play spoiler in several Big Ten games this season and this is one of those opportunities. Nebraska survives, however, albeit in a close contest.

Result: Win

Game 12: vs. Iowa

Entering the final week of the regular season with nine wins and taking on a tough Iowa team, the Huskers would likely be happy no matter the result. However, Frost isn’t one to get complacent and he’ll finish the regular season on a high note.

Result: Win

Final Record: 10-2 (6-2 in Big Ten)
