Biggest Trap Game: at Baylor (Nov. 16)

Producing two-straight Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks and College Football Playoff appearances is no small feat, but it’s exactly what Lincoln Riley has done at the helm of the Oklahoma Sooners coming into the 2019 season. Now, he’ll have another quarterback manning his offense and high hopes to at least have a shot at the National Championship once again.

The new quarterback is, of course, Jalen Hurts, who arrives as a graduate transfer from Alabama. While Hurts lost his job to Tua Tagovailoa in Tuscaloosa, he’s by no means a stranger to big moments and leading an offense to success, having led the Crimson Tide to two title games and even winning the SEC Championship in relief of Tagovailoa last year. On top of that, he has a brilliant offensive mind in Riley guiding him, as well as playing with phenomenal weapons in CeeDee Lamb, Trey Sermon, Kennedy Brooks and Grant Calcaterra.

While Oklahoma does have concerns about replacing guys along the offensive line, their big hope is that the defense can improve dramatically from being a near-dumpster fire in the 2018 season. The arrival of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch may help but it remains to be seen if it’ll be all offense in Norman again.

As the Sooners eye another Big 12 title and CFP berth, though, a mid-November trip to Waco could be crucial to the cause. After taking on a tough Iowa State team, they travel to take on Baylor before finishing the year against TCU and Oklahoma State. With that game against the Bears sandwiched between headline-stealing games, the Sooners can’t afford to get complacent in Waco.
