Kylian Mbappe set Ligue 1 alight in his first season with PSG, but the biggest star on the star-studded French champions could be angling for a move away from the capital next summer.

As always, PSG seems to be at the forefront of the summer’s biggest transfer rumors, except this year the rumblings indicate that Kylian Mbappe and Neymar will be moving away from the team soon, just one year after joining Ligue 1. Neymar seems to be as good as gone ahead of intense interest from Barcelona, and now Mbappe’s long-term future at PSG is unsettled.

According to a report from MARCA, Mbappe has told the Parisian giants that he doesn’t “see his long-term future at the club,” and won’t re-sign beyond 2022.

His current contract doesn’t run out until then, giving PSG a few more years before they would actually have to sell him in order to make fair value off of the world’s best young player. That means Mbappe could be sold as early as next summer, when PSG could find a replacement and still make a hefty amount of money for the world’s most valuable player.

Mbappe could be persuaded to stay if PSG are able to sell Neymar to Barcelona, since Mbappe would become the unquestioned leader of the Ligue 1 champions. Neymar has reportedly caused friction in the locker room, and perhaps Mbappe joins Julian Draxler as players with issues with the Brazilian superstar.

Last season, Mbappe scored a jaw-dropping 33 goals for PSG, which was 11 more than second-placed Lille star Nicolas Pepe. This came after he was the best player in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, leading France to World Cup glory over Croatia with an inspiring finals performance.

Mbappe has been linked to Real Madrid this summer, with fans even chanting his name at the unveiling of superstar winger Eden Hazard. It seems like Real have already signed enough big names in Hazard, striker Luka Jovic, and left back Ferland Mendy this summer, but Mbappe could be their top option in the summer of 2020 or 2021.

Of course, Los Blancos wouldn’t be the only top club desperate for Mbappe’s signature, as he’d be the most desirable player for teams to purchase. Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and even Liverpool could be mentioned in rumors for the former Monaco standout.

At this point, everything surrounding Mbappe can be filed under “rumors and speculation,” but whenever one of the world’s best three players is said to be unsettled, everyone has to take at least some notice. Mbappe is already a genius player on and off the ball and a deadly goal-scorer at the age of 20, so it’s unimaginable how good he’ll be in 2020 if he hits the transfer market.
