Italy vs. Netherlands quarterfinals live stream: Watch Women’s World Cup online
Italy play the Netherlands on Saturday, June 29 at the Stade du Hainaut in Valenciennes, France. Here’s what to know before you watch.
Upstart Italy take on defending European champion the Netherlands on Saturday in Valenciennes in the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup.
The Netherlands, 2-1 winner against Japan in the Round of 16, have the skill and experience to contend for the trophy. These set-piece Dutch masters have also had tremendous fan support across France throughout this World Cup.
The Dutch have defied the odds before. The Netherlands won the European Championship two years ago, outlasting many of the teams (seven of the eight quarterfinalists hail from UEFA) at this tournament, with midfielder Lieke Martens the star at that competition.
Martens scored the winning penalty kick in the game’s dying minutes versus Japan, the 2011 world champions and runners up four years ago. The Dutch also have a height advantage here, but the Italian counterattack and stingy backline are to be feared.
Like the Dutch, Italy are looking to make history at this World Cup. They have emerged as this tournament’s only Cinderella story. Their success is due largely to Italian clubs investing in women’s teams over the past few years. One key statistic: the Italians have tallied nine goals across four games, six of them coming in the second half.
The Women’s World Cup game between Italy and the Netherlands will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1. Live streaming is available on Fox Sports Go, which you can access with your cable or satellite subscriptions, either online or through the app.
