Baltimore Ravens – UNDER 8.5

More than anyone on the planet, I hate picking against my Ravens. That being said, this team is currently transitioning. With a new quarterback at the helm in Lamar Jackson and the team supposedly going forward with their “run everything” mentality, the Ravens have their work cut out for them.

The old school Army-style football worked for them last season. After Joe Flacco got hurt, the Ravens stuck rookie QB Lamar Jackson in the line up and decided they weren’t going to throw a single pass for the rest of the season. With three capable rushers (Jackson being one of them) the team finished their season winning six of seven games, the only loss coming in a close contest with the Kansas City Chiefs. The game plan was working.

This season, the Ravens have bolstered the run game by adding former Saints RB Mark Ingram. Unfortunately, teams have now had an entire offseason to prepare for the Ravens new style of play and their schedule likely isn’t going to do them as many favors. They see the Chiefs, Seahawks, Patriots, Texans and Rams who should all be somewhat difficult match ups for them. That, on top of their coin-flip rivalry games with the Steelers and two games against the powerhouse (?) Browns team should put the Ravens at exactly eight wins.

Eight wins in a mini-rebuild season is not bad. The Ravens still lack a ton of playmaking ability at the receiver position, which was something that troubled them when they had an experienced passing quarterback at the helm in Joe Flacco. Don’t expect them to rack up receiving yards with Lamar Jackson and the crew he has in front of him. Not yet, anyway.

Ravens win exactly eight games this season, which will be a successful run for this team.
