Fantasy Football Mailbag – Question 2- Submitted by Jay Williams: Does Saquon Barkley improve now that he will see more touches with Odell Beckham Jr. gone, or does he regress due to loaded boxes.

Answer: This is a great question! For me, the answer here is that he will slightly improve with Odell Beckham Jr. now on the Cleveland Browns and here’s why. Beckham finished with a stat line of 77 receptions, 1,052 receiving yards, and 6 TD’s  . That’s solid but it’s also not what you expect from someone of Beckham’s caliber. It wouldn’t be crazy to see someone like Sterling Shepard or Golden Tate performing a similar stat line in 2019. With that being said, we can’t say that Barkley didn’t see stacked boxes during his rookie season.

Being the player he is, I am a firm believer that Barkley is match-up proof. Stacked boxes or not, he still saw 20+ combined carries/receptions in 12 of the 16 games his rookie season. Worried about Barkley not being as fantasy relevant because the Giants have no chance at being good this year – don’t worry because the receiving aspect of Barkley keeps him safe. Barkley actually had 121 targets last year, and had 14 more receptions than Beckham. Whether it’s Eli Manning or Daniel Jones throwing him the ball, Barkley should lead this team in targets, keeping him an elite fantasy RB.
