3. Rashan Gary will be inactive at least eight times

The Packers’ selection of Gary in the first round was met with a lot of criticism by NFL scouts and media members. There’s a good reason for that. Gary’s production at Michigan never seemed to match his physical gifts.

Defenders of the former Wolverines star point to the fact that he played out of position for the majority of his collegiate career. He played the majority of his snaps inside at Michigan, but he’ll almost certainly be a defensive end at the professional level.

That doesn’t mean he’s ready to make an immediate impact as an edge rusher. Gary has a chance to develop into a quality player in time, but it’s going to take him several seasons to learn what it takes to be a professional. His motor doesn’t run hot enough to contribute to a playoff contender right away.

There are also significant questions about his health. Add those with his inconsistent college tape and there’s a recipe for a pretty empty rookie season. Expect the combination to keep him on the shelf for a significant portion of his rookie campaign.
