Nebraska Football: 2019 depth chart predictions ahead of fall camp
Offense
Notable losses: On the offensive side of the ball, the Huskers have a few key players to replace. Two of the most difficult guys to replace will be wide receiver Stanley Morgan and also starting running back Devine Ozigbo. Both players went over 1,000 yards last season, receiving for Morgan and rushing for Ozigbo. Morgan also leaves as one of the most productive wideouts in Nebraska football history. His 189 receptions are the most in program history, along with his 2,747 receiving yards. He also ranks second in touchdown receptions with 22, trailing only Johnny Rodgers. The Huskers will have some pieces to replace up front as well.
QB: Adrian Martinez, sophomore | Noah Vedral, sophomore | Luke McCaffrey, freshman
Last season, Martinez burst onto the scene and put together the best freshman season for a quarterback since Taylor Martinez. The rookie threw for more than 2,600 yards while tossing 18 touchdown passes. The dual-threat also ran for 629 yards and eight scores, eclipsing the 100-yard mark against both Colorado and Minnesota. He also went over 300 yards of total offense six times in 11 starts. His performance at the Horseshoe against Ohio State, with 266 yards passing, 72 yards rushing and three touchdowns was impressive. Big things are on the way in 2019.
RB: Dedrick Mills, junior | Maurice Washington, sophomore | Jaylin Bradley, sophomore
Maurice Washington appeared to be the favorite to start after a promising freshman campaign but legal issues have put his future into doubt. It looks like he will be able to play this season but nothing is guaranteed. Dedrick Mills, a former Georgia Tech standout, who rushed for 771 yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman in 2016, is coming in as a JUCO transfer and after some delays, he is on the roster and could emerge from fall camp as the starter, filling Ozigbo’s role.
WR: JD Spielman, junior | Mike Williams, senior
WR: Kade Warner, sophomore | Jaron Woodyard, senior
WR: Wandale Robinson, freshman | Mike Williams, senior
Nebraska football lost one of its best receivers ever, however, going into 2019 the cupboard isn’t bare. JD Spielman returns for his junior season after 66 receptions for 818 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games a year ago. Kade Warner emerged with 17 receptions and had a strong spring. Robinson was an elite all-purpose back in the state of Kentucky that ranked second at his position nationally. He will be a dynamic slot receiver/running back who should remind Big Ten fans on Rondale Moore, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Purdue in 2018.
TE: Jake Stoll, junior | Austin Allen, sophomore | Katerian LeGrone, RS freshman
Stoll made a solid contribution as a sophomore last season, catching 21 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns. His production should only continue to grow this season and he is basically a shoo-in to be the starter. The depth behind him is questionable at best.
LT: Brenden Jaimes, junior | Christian Gaylord, senior | Bryce Benhart, freshman
LG: Trent Hixson, sophomore | John Raridon, junior
C: Cameron Jurgens, sophomore | Matt Farniok, junior
RG: Boe Wilson, junior | John Raridon, junior | AJ Forbes, RS freshman
RT: Matt Farniok, junior | Bryce Benhart, freshman
The Huskers will return three of their five starters on the offensive line from a season ago, including both tackles. Brenden Jaimes will start on the left side and Matt Farniok will be back on the right. Boe Wilson will start once again at right guard, however, the key position may be sophomore Cameron Jurgens at center, a guy with huge upside. He’s athletic, big (6-foot-6) and he can move. Trent Hixson also has seemed to pass the more experienced John Raridon at guard.
