9. Giulia Gwinn, Germany vs. China
Germany didn’t have their best World Cup appearance, but they did make it to the quarterfinals and scored a few fantastic goals. One of the best of these efforts came from Giulia Gwinn, who was named the best young player of the tournament. Surely, this goal played a key role in that nomination.
Gwinn patrolled outside the box, took one touch, set up, and fired a scorcher past Peng Shimeng to give her team a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute of a nail-biting, back-and-forth match that could have easily went China’s way.
The 20-year-old is headed to Bayern Munich this season after spending several years at Freiburg, and it’s safe to say Gwinn is ready to take the next step in her development. She looks like a star and even successfully transitioned to right back to help Germany later in the tournament.

8. Aurora Galli, Italy vs. Jamaica
Aurora Galli entered the 2019 Women’s World Cup as a little-known 22-year-old midfielder for Juventus who didn’t have a particularly prolific goal-scoring record for either club or country, yet she’s exited the tournament as one of the biggest breakout stars.
If penalties aren’t included in the goal tallies, Galli’s 0.90 goals per 90 minutes rate was good for fifth in the tournament – only global stars Cristiane, Sam Kerr, Alex Morgan, and Ellen White could best that mark.
Galli did her damage in bunches, scoring two goals in 25 minutes of action as a substitute against Jamaica before scoring a wondergoal as a sub against China’s stalwart goalkeeper Peng Shimeng in the Round of 16.
While her goal against China was excellent, her first goal of the tournament against Jamaica was even better.
Like Lavelle, Galli is a lethal distance shooter, and she won’t forget this strike in a long time. It’s difficult to hit a ball any better than this. This was a rocket.
