MLB DFS Pitching Gems July 20: Griffin Is Too Cheap
MLB DFS Pitching Plays
Clayton Kershaw – Over the past two games, we have had the privilege to see some vintage Kershaw. With 16 combined strikeouts, and only allowing two runs. He now draws the Marlins who, lets face it, are one of the worst offenses in the league. With a god awful 51% GB rate against LHP, and a combined .141 ISO, they are virtually powerless at the plate. Yes the strikeout numbers are way down for Clayton compared to recent seasons, but his GB numbers are still elite sitting at 53% against RHH. He will see nine righties in this match-up, where his K rate is at 23%.
Pitch Mix – Kershaw has a good mix of pitches he throws, using the Fastball around 40% of the time, Slider 38%, and Curve now sitting at 20%. One interesting note is he has been increasing the Curve usage each month, it gets his biggest whiffs at around 40%. The Slider got 37% whiffs in his last game, and has been generating some massive ground-balls over 60% of the time. The velocity is at the lowest it has ever been on the Fastball, at right below 90 MPH. The movement is also down below 11 inches, but it is only a minor decline. Overall his pitch mix, and solid recent form make him a very safe option on this main slate.
