Fantasy Football Player Profile: Zach Ertz

Best Case Scenario

I think the best-case scenario is exactly what we just saw. Before last year, Ertz had never seen more than 110 targets in a single season. Now, it’s the first time he played all 16 games so that is part of that reason there’s such a gap between target counts. Ertz finished with 1,163 yards after never eclipsing 853 in any previous seasons. The eight touchdowns tied for his career-high, so it becomes difficult to project him to get much higher. The good news on that front is he should remain close to that touchdown mark if the red zone usage was any indication. He finished with 28 red-zone targets, tied for fifth in the league.

The argument to bump up Ertz from last season is Carson Wentz being healthy. Ertz scored eight of the 33 touchdowns Wentz threw in 2017, while both players missed at least two games. If Wentz is healthy, it could stand to reason that Ertz will enjoy the same success rate he had in 2017. If it sounds like I’m reaching for reasons, it’s because I am. There’s a legitimate chance in my mind that Ertz just had a career season. He could match it, but he might never produce more than he did entering his age-29 season.
