Fantasy Football Player Profile: Zach Ertz
Welcome into the third Fantasy Football Player Profile, featuring Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz! Let’s look at how he could finish in 2019!
Fantasy Football season is closer than you think, so to get you prepared we’re going to be doing individual player profiles through the next few weeks! We’ll be recapping the 2018 season, looking at potential best and worst-case scenarios, and see what a dynasty outlook could be.
This is the fun part because I want you to get involved. I’m just picking players as things stand, but don’t be afraid to reach out on Twitter to me @bucn4life or tag me on the @fantasycpr account to let me know who you want to see next!

Zach Ertz 2018 Recap
For all the attention(and deservedly so) Travis Kelce got, Zach Ertz had an incredible season in his own right. He only finished about 23 points behind Kelce and that wasn’t with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ertz had Carson Wentz who suffered through a tough, injury-filled season and Nick Foles. Nobody in Philly needs to get mad at me, but Foles isn’t exactly Mahomes.
Ertz finished ninth in the entire NFL in targets at 157, ahead of such names like Mike Evans, Keenan Allen, Brandin Cooks and Stefon Diggs. That led to him being tied for third in receptions at 116, 14 behind Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas for the NFL lead. If Ertz was eligible at wide receiver, he would have been WR11 on the year. That’s basically a cheat code in your lineup and that’s the reason Ertz, Kelce and San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle are all going within the top 40 picks right now. The question is going to be – is Ertz still worth a third-round pick in 2019?
Dynasty Outlook
If I have Ertz on any roster, I’m looking to sell provided I have a reasonable backup plan at the position or a tight end coming back to me is part of the deal. Anytime you have players with an ADP in the top 50, it’s not a bad idea to get price checks within your league. Ertz is a top 30 player right now via the ADP, and there’s a reasonable chance he may not finish there in this new-look offense. You could be selling at an all-time high and use the fact that he finished as a WR11 in .5 PPR as a talking point. Tight end is scarce, someone might overpay handsomely.
If you’re buying, you probably need to wait this one out. If you believe like I do that Ertz is still a top-five option at the position but has some warning signs, wait until the new year starts. If Ertz comes out of the gates a little slow, there’s your opening to pounce.
