Ranking the 50 most visually-appealing college football uniforms
By Zach Bigalke
Among a range of traditional styles in their conference, Michigan State is right there as one of the most distinctively dressed programs in the Big Ten. In a land where red predominates the color schemes at half the league’s schools, the Spartans stand out as the only team in the Big Ten whose main color is green.
With an evocative logo that pops regardless of which colors they go with on a given weekend, Michigan State has a great base look. The green helmet with the white Spartans logo offers a great base look for the traditional green jerseys and white pants or the all-white look with green sleeve accents. The introduction of a white helmet with a green logo and green center stripe was a great addition to the wardrobe in 2017.
The Spartans have also exhibited a willingness to work with Nike to incorporate some accents into their alternative offerings that push the envelope beyond their traditional green and white togs. While their 2019 effort has been pilloried, the Spartans have included some other great attempts that played well such as a chrome green helmet in 2012 and a bronze helmet and uniform accents in 2015.
At the heart of each design is a commitment to a logo with a history dating back to 1977. That commitment carries through in every uniform, both traditional and alternate.
