In an era where some schools seem to take uniforms into the space age, it seems odd that some might get worked up about a shoulder stripe. Then again, when that now-common stripe is known by your school’s name, it makes sense that a fan base might take umbrage with a deviation toward shorter stripes.

That was the case with the UCLA stripe on Bruins jerseys. Introduced in the post-World War II landscape under head coach Red Sanders, those stripes started to shrink noticeably toward the end of the Adidas era. After dealing with shortened stripes for several years, UCLA signed with Under Armour when the Adidas contract ended and the stripe returned in its full extension, completely separating the sleeves from the torso of the jersey.

That stripe is a critical component of the legendary look of the Bruins uniform. Coupled with their simple yet effective gold helmet adorned with the script logo, the vibrant blue and gold of the uniforms continue to remain a vital part of the college football landscape.

As one of the classic looks of the Pac-12, the Bruins enjoy one of the 20 best-dressed teams in the entire country. The timeless look instantly evokes Saturdays in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl.
