While Georgia gets more eyeballs on their program each weekend, perennial SWAC contender and Celebration Bowl hopeful Grambling State sports the classic football G on the side of their helmets in a way that is just as striking. One look at the thick black lettering of the G with the golden accent and thin bordering on a black helmet is an instant indication that you are watching HBCU football.

Black and gold are the mainstays of the Grambling look, but one of the greatest reintroduction in recent years is the option to incorporate red pants and jerseys into the uniform combinations. That includes an all-red look that hails back to the days of legendary coach Eddie Robinson and one of the glory eras of Tigers football.

Other HBCU programs have great uniforms, no doubt. The deep sky blue with gold and white accents that mark Grambling’s rival Southern, the classic blue-and-yellow pop of MEAC powerhouse North Carolina A&T, and the purple base of Alcorn State’s classic uniforms.

While those teams have challenged Grambling State on the football field, though, they cannot compete with the Tigers when it comes to excellence in wardrobe choices. Among college football programs, none wear the G quite as stylishly as the HBCU version.
