Fantasy Football Player Profile: Patrick Mahomes

Best Case Scenario

It would be really easy to just say, “Refer to 2018” and call it a day but that’s not what we do here. Yes, Mahomes just threw 50 but what if he breaks Manning’s record and throws 56? I don’t expect it at all but what if we’re witnessing the new version of quarterback in the NFL? I don’t think (m)any quarterbacks can do what Mahomes does. Some of the throws are jaw-dropping from crazy bases and body position. He could just be Neo in The Matrix and not even be close to his prime yet.

It seems that he will return all his major weapons, sans running back Kareem Hunt. Even then, Damien Williams proved last year he can fill that void in the short burst if nothing else. We’ll get to him another day. Tight end Travis Kelce and wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill are back for 2019 with Kelce being the oldest at 29. Hill and Watkins are 24 and 26, right in the prime of their careers. They spent much of the off-season on defensive players but did take wide receiver Mecole Hardman in the second round, just adding to the fun.

There is one way that Mahomes could unlock even more fantasy goodness – rushing. He did rush for 272 yards and two touchdowns, but he is capable of even more if he chooses to. He’s not a burner in the classic sense with a 4.8 40 yard dash, but in college, he has rushing seasons of 456 and 285 yards. That came under current Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury so hellllllooooo Kyler Murray. If Mahomes adds more rushing plays to his arsenal, we could be one of the more unique quarterbacks on the field in a different way than last year and could best his 2108 MVP campaign.
