Welcome into the third Fantasy Football Player Profile, featuring Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes! Let’s look at how he could finish in 2019!
Fantasy Football season is closer than you think, so to get you prepared we’re going to be doing individual player profiles through the next few weeks! We’ll be recapping the 2018 season, looking at potential best and worst-case scenarios, and see what a dynasty outlook could be.
This is the fun part because I want you to get involved. I’m just picking players as things stand, but don’t be afraid to reach out on Twitter to me @bucn4life or tag me on the @fantasycpr account to let me know who you want to see next!

Patrick Mahomes 2018 Recap
When you’re 23 years old, a top 10 pick and in your first season under center, the expectations are high but I don’t think anyone possibly saw this coming. Mahomes joined the exclusive club of only two other members, becoming the third player in NFL history to eclipse 50 passing touchdowns in a season.
The other two members are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, two of the best to ever do it. I’d say that’s pretty solid company to be in. Mahomes racked up 5,097 yards and only threw 12 interceptions. In four point passing touchdown leagues, he scored 417 fantasy points, the best season on record. The biggest question is what’s next, but let’s look at the Dynasty question first.
Dynasty Outlook
I’m very torn on this. Part of me says to trade him since he’s going to be at possibly the highest value ever. He basically wrecked the fantasy season last year for players that didn’t have him. According to ESPN, Mahomes had the second-highest percentage among league winners at 35.5 percent. He was behind only Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers.
This is where it gets tricky. In just regular one quarterback leagues, how do you possibly return value? If it’s just a normal 12, 14 or 16 player league….quarterback is stocked. Maybe not at this level, but why give up a Deshaun Watson or Baker Mayfield plus other pieces for Mahomes? It wouldn’t make much sense. It’s hard to sell or buy fairly.
In two quarterback/superflex leagues, it’s easier to craft a deal for value but harder to let him go. It’s hard to actively shop the player who just had the best fantasy season ever while he’s 23 years old and returns basically everyone from last year. Unless someone just bowls you over, staying the course seems to make sense.
