MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Early Slate

Cash – Clayton Kershaw (11.4k both sites) @ Washington

If you’re going to play cash games on small slates (which I wouldn’t recommend) then it usually makes the most sense to pay up for best pitcher and safest arm. On this slate, specifically, Kershaw may be overpriced but he’d be the guy I build any cash game lineups around. He’s been excellent now in three straight starts and the Nats bats were handled last night by fellow lefty Ryu.

GPP – Eduardo Rodriguez (8.1k FD, 8.8k DK) vs. New York Yankees

Oh boy, another E-Rod endorsement from me, what is happening?  This guy just continues to pitch well and is coming off a brilliant effort against Tampa Bay in his last start. He does walk too many guys and yes he has the potential to get hit hard, but he has established some consistency recently, allowing two runs or less in his last five straight starts. The Yankees are better against righties than lefties and E-Rod should get some run support today from the surging Red Sox bats.

Value – Tyler Alexander (5.9k FD, 5.8k DK) @ Seattle

There’s not a lot of sample size to go off here, but Alexander has been effective in both of his first two MLB starts. He hasn’t shown great strikeout potential, but he isn’t walking guys and is pitching efficiently. Last night fellow Detroit lefty Daniel Norris really held Seattle in check and I like Alexander’s chances of doing the same today and maybe picking up a few more strikeouts than last time out while he’s at it.
