The New York Jets went free agent hunting this offseason, and it shows in Vegas’ confidence in them. They signed Le’Veon Bell, C.J. Mosley, Henry Anderson and Jamison Crowder. It’s a major haul, but it would have looked much better if Mosley was instead Anthony Barr, but he reneged on his deal with the Jets, and went back to the Vikings.

The Jets are hoping for a breakout year from Sam Darnold. Adam Gase comes in with a new offense, one many believe will be a good fit for what Darnold brings to the table. They added pieces around him with Bell, Crowder, Ty Montgomery and bringing back Robbie Anderson and Quincy Enunwa. There are some weapons at Darnold’s disposal.

The issue is things can fall off the rails fast for the Jets. The schedule gets insanely easier come the end of October, but there’s a real possibility they have one win at that point. Both their matchups with the Patriots come in the first two months. Their bye week comes at Week 4, about the worst possible time. If they come out of October 2-6, are they going to be putting everything into every matchup down the stretch?

The Jets really needed their harder matchups later in the year. Bell has a full year off his cleats. Gase is putting together a whole new system, one that everyone needs to learn. There are brand new pieces to put in place, and not enough time to get everyone on the same page. The Jets will put themselves in a hole that’s too far to get out of, and they won’t make it to .500. You can bet on that.
