Fantasy Football 2019 FanSided Mock Draft

1.5 DeAndre Hopkins

Like I said in the intro, I prefer to lock up my top running back in the first round. But, with the fifth overall pick, that wasn’t going to happen. Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara, Christian McCaffrey and Ezekiel Elliott were drafted ahead of me.

After those four went, I felt like the rest of the top-10 was a roll of the dice due to health, new team or reliability. So, I went with Hopkins. I was only one of three owners to draft a wide receiver in the first round.

Hopkins caught a career-high 115 yards for 1,572 yards and 11 touchdowns. While he may not reach those numbers in 2019, he is one of the few that could. Another year of Deshaun Watson and full seasons from Will Fuller and Keke Coutee will help take the pressure of Hopkins.

2.20 Damien Williams

Coming back to the second round, I knew I needed to take a running back at the risk of drafting backups before it was too late. Williams looked good as the starter in the final three weeks of the season. He recorded 203 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries. Williams also had 119 receiving yards and another score.

Running backs in an Andy Reid system always perform well. While the Chiefs offense will likely run through Patrick Mahomes’ arm, Williams will be called upon to keep defenses honest.

The downside to Williams is that he doesn’t have experience as a starter. He has just seven starts throughout his career. I could have gone with another wide receiver but there’s plenty of depth there, as you’ll see later.

3.29 Marlon Mack

Mack played in 12 games last season, rushing for 908 yards and nine touchdowns on 195 attempts. With a full season ahead of him, Mack should have no problem eclipsing 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Colts offense was one of the best in the league, scoring the fifth-highest points per game at 27.1. Andrew Luck was back at full health, playing in all 16 games. I like drafting players on teams that score a lot of points.

There were a couple of players I was deciding between, T.Y. Hilton, Amari Cooper, and Kerryon Johnson as well as Mack.

4.44 Kenny Golladay

After passing on a few top receivers, Golladay fell to me in the fourth round. I had him on a couple of teams last season and he was pretty good before getting hurt in the final weeks. He hauled in 70 passes for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns.

The scoring was a bit lackluster as the Lions were 20th in average scoring. But in a half-point PPR league, he could get another 40 points just from receptions.

There were some good wide receivers drafted before me, including Julian Edelman (a PPR dream), Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks.

5.53 Kenyan Drake

Rounding out my first five picks is the Dolphins backup running back, according to Ourlads.com. Though, ESPN has Drake as the starter. This is going to be a battle to watch throughout the preseason.

I went with Drake here because the absence of Frank Gore frees up 150 carries. Plus, the front office brought in Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick to battle over the starting quarterback job. With the way both have played, they will be relying on the run game.

This pick could bite me in the butt if Kalen Ballage becomes the starter. Though, he’s a good stash should an injury occur.
